Seminars and Workshops

To mark the 20 glorious years of its service to the education of Biomedical Sciences, the Institute organized various Seminars cum Workshops under IndAcad Fest 2015 whereby eminent speakers from leading corporates and educational Institutes delivered lectures on burning topics in their field of interest and interacted with youngsters. Poster and quiz competitions were also organized.


Sardar Bhagwan Singh (PG) Institute of Biomedical Sciences and Research, Balawala, Dehradun organised “Indacad Fest 2015", a series of Seminars cum Workshops. The Training and Placement cell of the Institute organized a workshop on the theme “Intellect and Skill Demands of Industries and Professional Possibilities” an attempt to bridge the gap between industry and academia. In this Workshop eminent speakers from leading corporate sectors delivered their lectures, shared their views and interacted with the participants about the latest trends in the industries. Prof. F.C. Garg, Director SBSPGI welcomed the participants and inaugurated the workshop. Mr. Madan Mohan Varshney, Vice President, Flex Foods, Dehradun delivered the keynote lecture. Some other speakers were:

A Poster competition was also organized on the theme “Innovations in Industrial Technologies: Theoretical Aspects”. Around 450 students from different colleges of Dehradun and surroundings participated in the workshop. Students found the workshop as an incredible opportunity to explore their skills and to groom them. This workshop re-opened the challenges faced by academia for preparing students for placements.


As a part of “Indacad Fest 2015”, the Department of Applied Chemistry, SBSPGI, organized a two day National Seminar Cum Workshop 'CHEMCON 2015' on the theme “Advances, Perspectives and Challenges in Chemical Sciences”. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Rajendra Dobhal, Director General of Uttarakhand Council for Science and Technology, Dehradun. Prof. M.P.S. Ishar, Former Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu and Senior Professor, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar delivered the key note address on “Advances and Challenges in the field of Chemical Sciences”. Other prominent speakers who graced the occasion were:

  • Dr. B.B. Prasad, Senior Professor, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi
  • Dr. V.K. Varshney, Scientist-E and Head, Department of Chemistry, Forest Research Institute, Dehradun.

The Technical session was presided over by Prof. M. S. M. Rawat, Former Vice-Chancellor of H N B Garhwal (Central) University. Apart from lectures by eminent speakers, Poster presentation, Model competition depicting applications of chemical sciences, Science quiz and Hands on training on modern sophisticated instruments like HPLC, Gas Chromatography and Electro Analytical techniques etc. were some of the attractions of the event. Winners of various competitions were awarded cash prizes. Around 400 under/post graduate students from HNB Garhwal University, Srinagar, GGM Science PG College, Jammu, ITS College, Uttar Pradesh, FRI, Graphic Era University, GRD Institute, Uttaranchal College, MKP College, DAV College, DBS College, Dolphin Institute Dehradun and L.M. College, Rishikesh etc participated in the Workshop.


Three days “Regional Training Workshop on Water Quality Monitoring & Management” sponsored by Uttarakhand Council for Science and Technology (UC0ST), Dehradun was organised for UG, PG & Research Students of various Institutes/Universities of the region. Professor U S Rawat, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Shree Dev Suman University, Tehri Garhwal and HNB Medical Education University, Dehradun inaugurated the workshop. Er. S K Gupta, Chief General Manager, Uttarakhand Jal Sansthan (UJS) was the Guest of Honour.

The objective of the workshop was to create awareness among the participants and develop trained human resource personnel capable of tackling problems of the water used for drinking and other purposes such as in agriculture, food and pharmaceutical industries etc. Comprehensive knowledge and hands on training on water quality analysis and management with respect to several water quality characteristics was given to the participants to inculcate the scientific temper as well as professional skills on water quality analysis.

"Expert Lectures" and "Hands-on-Training" on analysis of biological (TC/FC) and Physico-chemical parameters was given to the participants. Eminent speakers laid stress on Water Quality Monitoring and Management, Water Quality and Advanced Instrumentation in the analysis of water. Speakers included. Speakers at the event were:

PHARMAZENITH 2015, a National Seminar cum Workshop was organized by the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences on the theme “Essentia of Today & Tomorrow: Inculcating Advanced Pharmaceutical Skills with Innovative Approach”. The basic aim of the seminar was to deliver comprehensive knowledge of the future aspect of Pharmaceutical Sciences with respect to the need of Industry and Research. In this seminar cum workshop an effort was made to inculcate necessary skills through lectures by eminent persons from Industries as well as Academics, followed by Hands on Training, Poster Competition and Pharma Quiz.

Dr. R.K. Maheshwari. Professor, Department of Pharmacy, S.G.S.I.T.S., Indore Delivered key note address on“Eco-Friendly applications of- Hydrotropic Solubilization; Mixed Hydrotropic Solubilization; Mixed-Solvency Concept”. Some of the other speakers were Dr. Ashok Kumar Tiwari. Professor & Ex-Head, Department Of Pharmaceutical Sciences & Drug Research Punjabi University, Patiala; Dr. D. Birdi. Vice President, Corporate Quality Assurance , Akums Drugs & Pharmaceuticals Ltd., Haridwar.and Dr. Yogendra Singh. Quality Assurance Manager. Akorn Pharmaceuticals Ltd., Paonta Sahib.

Hands on Training was the prima focus of the event whereby training was given on various Instruments like HPLC, GC, Polarimeter, Franz Diffusion Cell, Pilot Plant Equipments, Dissolution Test Apparatus, Langendroff Apparatus, Autoanalyzer, Digital Plethysmograph and Microbiological aspects etc.
